Standard Containers and High Cube Containers

Standard Containers: Common sizes (20ft/6m & 40ft/12m) offer ample space for most cargo, making them a cost-effective option for most dry goods. Their consistent size ensures easy stacking and transport across various shipping modes.

High Cube Containers: Maximize space with an extra foot (30cm) of height, bringing the total interior height to around 9ft 6in (2.89m). This additional space is ideal for bulky or tall cargo that wouldn’t fit in a standard container. High cube containers are particularly useful when you need to fit more standard-sized items in a single container, potentially reducing your overall shipping costs.

Open-Top Containers

Open-Top Containers: Ideal for bulky or irregularly shaped cargo. Featuring a completely open roof secured by a tarpaulin after loading, open-top containers allow for top-loading via cranes, making them perfect for oversized items that wouldn’t fit through side doors. They typically come in the same 20′ and 40′ lengths as standard containers.

Flatrack Containers and Platforms

Flatrack Containers: Offering more versatility than standard containers, flatracks are essentially platforms with a base and two adjustable side walls. These walls can be fixed upright for additional cargo containment or laid flat on the base to create a larger, open platform. Commonly available in 20′ and 40′ lengths, flatracks are ideal for bulky or oversized cargo that can’t fit within a standard container.

Platforms: Designed for maximum cargo capacity on a single level, platforms are essentially bases without side or end walls. This open structure allows for easy loading and unloading of oversized or heavy equipment, particularly in situations where tight spaces require maneuvering. Similar to flatracks, platform sizes typically come in 20′ and 40′ lengths.

Refrigerated Containers and Tank Containers

Refrigerated (Reefer) Containers: Designed for temperature-controlled transport, reefer containers are essentially insulated chambers equipped with a built-in cooling unit. These climate-controlled containers, typically available in 20′ and 40′ sizes, are ideal for perishable goods like food and pharmaceuticals that require consistent temperature regulation during shipping.

Tank Containers: Built for the safe and efficient transport of bulk liquids or gases, tank containers are essentially giant, reinforced cylinders encased in a protective steel frame. Unlike reefers that focus on temperature control, tank containers prioritize secure transport of the contents. They come in various sizes to accommodate different volumes of liquids or gases.
